Maia Oden’s new CD, Hidden Queen, is one that all lovers of Goddess-oriented music will want to have for their libraries. The songs range from the slow, hypnotic invocations of Magdalene and Elemental to the soft saudi/samba dance rhythms of Becoming, and All About Love, with lyrics that combine the words of the poet with the melodies of ancient memories.
With the exception of Silence of Love, which Maia sings in her captivating voice a capella, beautiful harmonies and instrumentation compliment each track and the restrained use of guitar, flute and percussion gives fullness to the songs.
Maia Oden’s journey to the Goddess began as a child in the meadows near her Smokey Mountain home, looking into the sky and “listening to the voice of the Earth”. Her journey took her to Taos, New Mexico where she lived for 8 years and where her son was born.
Today, she lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where she works as a nanny and seasonal farm worker. After you hear her CD, she will undoubtedly be generating more income as a musician and song-writer!
With Marcia Snedecor's timeless image of Mother Goddess as Tree of Life, entitled "Queen of the Glen" gracing the CD cover and Dorrie Joy's verdant painting "Sleeping Tor (Spring Equinox)" embellishing the inside, this CD package is a joy to behold.
