It is at once an herbal, a travel book and a compendium of Gypsy lore and Gypsy ways. Juliette gives us river winds, strange characters in the streets by day, rats scurrying by at night, and legions of cockroaches in the apartments, against whose window the blossoms of apple and pear trees toss, even in the great city’s cement heart. Author Bio: /Juliette de Bairacli Levy (1911-2009) is honored as the grandmother of modern American herbalism. She has devoted her life to the health and well being of domesticated animals, especially dogs. Her herbals and memoirs have been in print, and in use, for over fifty years.

"Juliette's new book "A Gypsy in New York" takes you on one of the author's walks through New York City, with her two young children. She paints a lovely picture of the city, with its various characters - humans, animals and plants alike. Her story is filled with anecdotes and history of the gypsies around the world and their life in New York, from their migrations around Europe to their persecution during WWII. Juliette's book is a wonderful and enjoyable tale from her travels around the world. Definitely worth reading this new edition!" review by Myristica, June 15, 2011
"A marvelous journey for anyone interested in gypsies, herbs, or "roots history". The author describes with loving detail a winter spent in Manhattan-featuring her encounters with the gypsies there. A true renaissance woman, far far ahead of her time, she thrills and inspires us with her bravery and her ability to ferret out the essential. An extraordinary woman and a delightful memoir." ~ Bunny Day, June 25, 2011
"I highly suggest "A Gypsy in New York!" The book flows beautifully! It is about the life of Juliette De Bairacli Levy and her journey throughout New York with her two young children. This book is wonderful for anyone interested in the life of a gypsy. I would also recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about herbs. What I liked so much about this book is that it not only told a lovely story about the life of a gypsy woman, but also provides invaluable information on herbs. The photos in the book are fantastic! I was amazed to know that there is a whole gypsy movement in New York that is hidden. Juliette is also a great lover of animals. "A Gypsy in New York" is a truly fantastic book! I highly recommend it!" ~ Paula Lee, June 26, 2011
